Tiger Fuel Company was established in August of 1982 with the purchase of an Exxon-branded petroleum distributor in Charlottesville, Virginia. In the ensuing years, Tiger Fuel Company has expanded, building modern facilities for retail gasoline, car washes, convenience food and providing home heating oil and propane gas products. Tiger Fuel Company has steadily grown into a complete energy provider for Central Virginia.
In 1990, Tiger Fuel Company expanded once again and opened a second distributor location in beautiful Lovingston in Nelson County. The Lovingston office, formerly Moyer Oil Company, became an official division for Tiger Fuel, offering the same extensive line of petroleum products and services available in Charlottesville.
In 2004, Tiger Fuel Company acquired the assets of Appomattox Servistar Oil and Propane Company, expanding into a new region for the company. Then, in 2007, Tiger Fuel continued its expansion by purchasing the assets of the family-owned Appomattox Oil Company, founded in 1932 by C. Lewis McDearmon, Sr.
Originally Appomattox Oil Company was a Texaco distributor of gasoline, fuel oils, diesel fuel, kerosene, and farm and commercial lubricants. In 1964, Appomattox Oil added propane (LP gas) to its product line. Shell Oil purchased the Texaco Lube business in 2005, at which time Appomattox began to sell Shell lubricants.
Customers in Appomattox will find Tiger Fuel Company providing many of the same products while expanding its services. C. Lewis McDearmon Jr., the owner of Appomattox Oil Company when it was sold to Tiger Fuel, as well as many of the company’s original staff still work with us. Today, our Appomattox location serves the regions of Appomattox, Amherst, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Lynchburg, and Prince Edward and continues to be a strong corporate citizen. Today, Tiger Fuel Company is a complete petroleum products distributor. Tiger Fuel offers one-stop shopping for all your petroleum needs. In addition, Tiger Fuel represents six major brands: Exxon, Shell, BP, CITGO, and its own private label, EXCEL. Tiger Fuel is also the area's largest distributor of home heating fuels.
